This week – November 16th through November 22nd – is Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week. This annual event is where people and organizations nationwide work together to draw attention to the issues of hunger and homelessness in the United States. Founded at Villanova University in 1975, this important event helps educate our community and challenge all of us to ask,
“What is one thing I can do to make a difference for my hungry or unhoused neighbors?”
Our Street Outreach team works hard every day to connect with our unhoused neighbors in Montgomery County. They check in to offer a listening ear, provide supplies to sustain people safely outside and help to enroll them on waiting lists to get inside. One of the most important parts of the warming kits they give to our neighbors experiencing homelessness are Bombas socks. Warm, dry socks are difficult to come by when you are living outside yet can be life-saving protection.
Bombas socks are making a difference one foot at a time for those we serve in our community. Sometimes it really is that simple. A listening ear and dry socks for your feet can get you through to the next day. Each one of us has a part to play in building strong communities where everyone is cared for. Hopefully you are inspired to take a moment this week and talk to someone new. Get involved with the work already happening in your community as a volunteer or donate to ongoing efforts.
