What is Access Excel?

The Access Excel program is dedicated to guiding students toward a clear post-secondary path—whether it be college, vocational training, or entering the workforce. The program duration ranges from six months to one year, providing flexibility based on individual student needs and progress. Students served all have IEPs built around their educational, therapeutic, and future planning needs.

Five Focus Areas

Below are the five key components of the program.

Pathway Forward: Career or College Readiness

Students are assisted in exploring explore career and college pathways, including potential connections to the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR). Students who qualify for OVR services may receive support with job placement, job shadowing, transition planning, and college preparation. Additionally, we assist with resume writing, financial literacy, and strategies for independent living.

Transportation Support

Transportation is provided to ensure accessibility. Students are taught how to navigate public transportation systems, a critical life skill. We also offer direct transport to Montgomery County Community College’s (MCCC) Pottstown campus, where students can explore educational opportunities and available resources.

Credit Recovery Options

For students who may experience interruptions in their education—such as inpatient mental health treatment—we offer credit recovery options. This allows students to retake courses and remain on track for graduation. Instruction may be adapted using new teaching techniques tailored to diverse learning styles and individual needs.

Gateway to Connection: Bridging Support Systems

Students are introduced and transitioned to vital services and supports, including OVR and MCCC’s Accessibility Services. Teachers actively connect students to these resources, often accompanying them on campus tours of MCCC’s Pottstown campus to build familiarity and confidence.

Access to Therapeutic Services

All students enrolled in ALA or Access Excel have access to weekly individual and group therapy sessions, fostering emotional well-being alongside academic and vocational growth.
