For nearly 40 years, Access Services has been developing innovative ways to provide support services for individuals with special needs in Eastern Pennsylvania. Today, we are a large non-profit organization with staff members operating in eleven counties including Berks, Bucks, Carbon-Monroe-Pike, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton and Schuylkill.
Our service offering continues to grow; we are always looking for new ways to support our care recipients. Those receiving support range from adults and children with developmental disabilities and their families to individuals with mental illness. All of our programs are community-based. Ultimately, we seek to help those we serve to become productive, contributing members of their communities who lead independent, fulfilling lives.
To empower and serve people in need of specialized supports by providing innovative services that improve their ability to live fulfilling lives in the community.

In 1976, a group of Christian social workers in Pennsylvania was frustrated by the gaps in services provided for individuals with mental retardation in their community. They formed Access Services to develop innovative ways to meet some of these needs.
The first community homes opened in Montgomery County in 1978 to accommodate individuals released from Pennhurst State Center and other large mental health facilities. Six years later, Access Services was asked to operate ten group homes in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Today, we have expanded our services to include other community-based specialized services for children and adults with mental health needs, and we have created new options for people with developmental disabilities. Since our inception, our primary goal has been to provide more than basic care—we are constantly looking for innovative ways to raise the standard of care for all individuals with special needs to help them live rich, fulfilling lives.
Our Core Values inform our actions and guide us in our day-to-day relationships.

We believe that the philosophy of care is a set of good ideas that informs us in the way we should do our work. The philosophy of care inspires us to pursue excellence in all aspects of our work and directs our path as we move forward. The philosophy encompasses the entire agency, our staff and associates and the people we serve. It provides a standard for working together.
Our philosophy of care values all people and their uniqueness. It emphasizes the whole person – physical, emotional, social and spiritual and focuses on the key helping relationship between staff and the people we serve.
