The Answer Might Be….Yes

I remember really struggling to understand the actions of a person I was trying to help. I asked a colleague of mine what was driving this person’s decisions. Was it their mental illness? Was it the trauma they had experienced? Was it their bad moral choices? My colleague’s answer has stuck with me ever since. He said “Yes”. Rather than giving me a false either/or reply, he saw that each of my questions dealt with a different facet of this person’s complex life…and ours. As people with spiritual, social, emotional, and physical needs, we would be wise to maintain a vision of help that is holistic. The next time you’re asking what lens to look through in seeing someone, the answer just might be…”Yes”.
