Who We Are/Timeline
- 1976
- A group of Christian social workers look to develop an organization to
address gaps in services. Access Services is incorporated.
- 1978
- Access Services opens first group home in Montgomery County for individuals
moving out of Pennhurst.
- 1980
- Camp Daystar is held from 1980 to 1987 for children with severe and profound
handicaps.
- 1984
- Access Services opens ten group homes in Northampton County and opens
an office in Bethlehem.
- 1988
- Access Services begins offering Family Living services.
- 1991
- Consultation and Life Planning are developed as resources for families
who have a dependent family member.
- 1992
- In-Home Supports for families with disabled children starts in Bucks
County.
- 1993
- Access Services offers Respite—short-term housing for children
and adults with special needs—as a support to caregivers.
- 1994
- Agency begins serving children through Therapeutic Foster Care, providing
homes and therapeutic support for children and adolescents with mental health
issues.
- 1995
- Counseling and therapeutic services are offered for children and adolescents
through Enhanced Behavioral Health Services.
- Access Services receives the Outstanding Residential Provider Award.
- 1996
- Access Services was honored with an Outstanding Service Award for making
a notable contribution to children with serious emotional problems.
- Due to expanding programs, the main office moves in October to a larger
location based in Fort Washington.
- Access Services opens Orwigsburg office in Schuylkill County and begins
serving 14 families as part of its In-Home Supports and Respite programs.
- Access Services begins offering Therapeutic Foster Care through Children
& Youth in several counties.
- 1997
- Access Services Orwigsburg office initiates Enhanced Behavioral Health
Services in Schuylkill County.
- Mental Retardation Exemplary Service Award for Residential Provider of
the Year is awarded to Access Services.
- Access Services Bethlehem office begins to offer Minimal Supervision
services to individuals with mental retardation who are living on their
own but need some support in Lehigh and Northampton Counties.
- In-Home Supports is started in Delaware County.
- Access Services Orwigsburg office launches summer Day Camp.
- 1998
- Rob Reid is named President & CEO.
- Access Services Bethlehem office establishes "LIFE" (Learning in Functional
Environment) in Lehigh and Northampton Counties.
- Access Services Orwigsburg office establishes Lifesharing program in
Schuylkill County.
- 1999
- Access Outpatient Services opens in Orwigsburg. Access Services also
begins offering services through the Intensive In-home Counseling for Adolescents
in the Juvenile Justice System and doubles in a six-month period of time.
- 2000
- Access Services launches Starting Point support services in Montgomery
County to help adults with mental health issues live successfully in the
community.
- Access Services continues expansion into Carbon County.
- First Annual Golf Tournament
- Awarded the Champions of Industry by Pat Summerall
- 2001
- Adult Day Services are expanded with the opening of the Tamaqua LIFE
Program.
- Access Services 25th Anniversary Celebration
- 2002
- Access Services develops Respite Program in Phoenixville area in conjunction
with the PCHF and Phoenixville Hospital.
- Adult Day Services are expanded with the opening of the Schuylkill Haven
LIFE Program.
- PFDSW Beginnings
- 2003
- Respite Program in the North Penn area is expanded in conjunction with
the NPCHF.
- Tutoring program begins for adolescents being served in the Intensive
In-home Counseling program in Schuylkill County.
- Chaplain and Spiritual Care Program begin serving individuals.
- MR Community Support Principles Award for Starting Point
- Bethlehem After Hours Program
- Schuylkill County Volunteer Award – Life Program
- Philosophy of Care developed
- 2004
- Children's Crisis Support hotline and services for children and teens
begin in Montgomery County.
- Services are expanded into Berks County.
