Residential Services
Lifesharing
(formerly known as Family Living) provides long-term support for children
and adults with mental retardation in a stable and qualified host family home.
People who receive Lifesharing services attend
school, work and day programs. The host family receives continued support
and guidance from Access Services. In turn, the host family shares in the
team responsibility of helping the individual to become part of their family
and the community in which they live.
Clinical Services
Access Outpatient Services provides high quality and affordable evaluation, diagnostic, individual, group, family and couples counseling in Schuylkill County. The areas of treatment include, but are not limited to, eating disorders, depression, learning disorders, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and phobias. Some of the specialized treatment approaches include medication management and pharmaco therapy. Nationally recognized psychiatrist associates and psychotherapists are expert in dealing with a variety of mental health disorders and currently see over 500 persons a month. Most insurance plans are accepted and assistance is offered in completing all necessary paperwork. All major credit cards are also accepted for payment.
Support Services
In-Home Supports
are individually designed practical services that take place in the homes
and/or communities of people with developmental disabilities. Our goal is
to work with the individuals’ unique situations to provide support in
setting and meeting personal goals; making their homes more accessible; helping
with routine, daily care; and, helping them to become contributing and active
members of their communities.
Respite is a service
that provides short-term care to adults and children with disabilities in
nurturing home environments. Respite is often used to stabilize a person who
is in crisis, but may not need hospitalization. Respite also gives caregivers
a much-needed relief from the daily routines that cause burnout and fatigue.
Learning in Functional Environments (L.I.F.E.) is a unique publicly recognized and award-winning program that provides the supervision, support and recreation for adults with special needs to become active volunteers in their community by serving others and to develop skills that may eventually lead to paid employment. In this region, there are two locations in Schuylkill Haven and Tamaqua. Awarded a citation by Congressman David Argall for their community service, the two groups do many activities together. Each morning of the week, the group is involved in a number of volunteer or community service projects, just to name a few, visiting nursing home residents and singing and performing for assisted living facilities. They help out with cleaning and landscaping projects at local congregations and other civic centers. They serve Meals on Wheels to the seniors in their community. They have painted over 150 fire hydrants and take much pride in keeping most of the recreational parks in their locale free from trash. One special memory each year is a trip to Radio Music Hall for the Christmas show.
Children's Services
Enhanced Behavioral
Health Services (Wraparound) is a state-funded program that provides
therapeutic interventions to children under the age of 21 who are experiencing
emotional or behavioral problems. The program practices a family-centered
philosophy and is based on the principle of "wrapping" services and supports
around the specific needs of the children and their families. Individualized
service is provided as a process of working with children and their families
in their home communities.
